Jerusalem artichokes
In the spring we adopted a bunch of jeruslem artichoke plants from Linus’s mum, and planted them just next to the deck. Since then, they’ve been pretty much left alone, apart from some (not very successful) attempts to stop the slugs from eating them. They survived, and thrived, and grew very very tall … and this week we decided it was time to see if there was anything to harvest.
So Linus pulled up two plants, and this is what he found:

1.1kg of the freshest jerusalems I’ve ever met. I made this lot into a delicious soup for our lunch, and some puree for Anneli’s lunch, and we all enjoyed it very much.
These were both ridiculously easy to grow and really productive. That’s my kind of gardening!
Comments
I enabled comments on my blog a few months ago, but I’ve only had about 4 comments left so far. A couple of people have mentioned that they have had trouble leaving comments. I have tested the comment form and it works for me, so here are some instructions.
How to leave a comment on my blog
1. Click on the comments link below the post you want to comment on. It usually says “0 comments”. This will open a new little browser window.
2. Type your comment in the big box.
3. Read the funny wiggly word below the big box, and type it into the “Word verification” field. This is there so that nasty spammers can’t leave automatic spam messages on my blog.
4. Choose one of the four options below the “Choose an identity” heading.
* If you have a Google account, you can select the first option “Google account” and log into it with your Google username and password.
* If you have an Open ID, you can choose the second option and log in with your Open ID.
* If you have neither of those things, you can choose between the last two. If you select “Name/URL” then two fields appear, where you can enter your name and the URL of your website, if you have one. You can choose to just enter your name there.
* If you select “Anonymous” then your comment will have no name attached to it (but you could still sign your name within the comment text itself).
That’s all there is to it!
Now, everyone reading this post needs to write a comment so I can see that it works! Now! Do it!
A weekend away
We spent the weekend in picturesque Hunnebostrand, by the sea:

We enjoyed a preposterous amount of seafood, including crabs, shrimp, smoked mackerel, seafood pate, löjrom (a kind of caviar), havskräftor (small crayfish, like langoustines), and finally lobster as the main event. I’m fairly sure it was the best lobster I’ve eaten – moist and tasty and not at all chewy. Lobster season runs from September to April, and Hunnebostrand is the home of the “Lobster Academy”.
We also visited a couple of flea markets, where I scored a marble rolling pin and two awesome vases from Alingsås Keramik:

Back home, we found that mice have been having a party in the part of the cellar where Linus was aging some cheese. We have set out a bunch of traps, but from the amount of cheese that has been eaten it seems we may have a mouse army living downstairs.
Anneli’s first tooth made its debut appearance last Wednesday, which pleased her immensely. But after a day of grumpiness she seems to have gotten used to it being there. It feels strange when I feed her though, and feel the tooth scritch against the plastic spoon. I wonder how long it will be before the rest of them start popping up, and if she will be similarly grumpy each time – or better, or worse.
