I was idly dead-heading Roses this morning when I saw this:

A bud poking out of the middle of a flower. I’ve never seen such a thing before, though I’m not exactly a veteran rose grower. I found several more examples, all in the same area of the same bush.

Here is one where I’ve pulled away the petals:

What is this? Some genetic mutation?
